How pip value works
A pip is the smallest standard price move: 0.0001 on most pairs and 0.01 on yen pairs. What it is worth depends on your position size, the pair’s quote currency and your account currency.

Position size

- Pip value per lot

- Position in units
- —
Formula
Lots = amount at risk ÷ (stop in pips × pip value per lot), rounded down to 0.01.

How position sizing works
Decide what share of the account one trade may lose, then let the stop distance set the size. A wider stop means a smaller position for the same risk.

How risk and reward work
The ratio tells you how often a trade has to work to break even. At 1 : 2 you need to be right a third of the time; at 1 : 1, half. The stop and the target sit on opposite sides of the entry.
